It's the Little Things

Written on October 18, 2024

Having recently been away for a while, giving myself the time and space to relax as much as possible, I noticed, after getting back to my normal daily life, where a lot of my daily stress comes from.

Of course a lot of it comes from actual stressful situations. But, surprisingly, it seems like most of my daily stress comes from the little annoyances I have every day.

The little stressors that, while they may not seem like a big deal when they happen, can pile up and pile up and cause more stress than you might expect. Especially because the stress that it causes is something you can't place.

The stress that you know where it's coming from is less stressful in the long run than constantly coming home from a long day and finding yourself completely dejected from stress, without actually knowing where that stress is coming from.

I am absolutely convinced that I would not have discovered this if I had not given myself the time and space to really rest — which for me shows the importance of it — and then had a good look at what daily life does to me mentally.

I can recommend everyone to, if possible, take a period of rest for yourself and, despite your stress-free return, to be immediately alert to stressors and to try to discover which stressors you are sensitive to. Hopefully this will help you stay calm and stress-free.
