How to Become Your Best Self

Avoid Perfectionism

It's fine to make mistakes and leave imperfections. The only thing perfectionism creates is procrastination. Learning something new is done by making mistakes, not by repeating the same small tasks over and over again in an attempt to achieve an unattainable idea of perfection.

Become the Person You Want to Be

People may say that it is fake to pretend to be something you are not, but I would say it is fake to keep on being the person you do not want to be. Think about it deeply. Which person do you want to be? What is stopping you from becoming that person? Advice I would give anyone feeling like they are not being their best self or living their best life is to just pretend like you are the person you want to become.

Just like when you're sad and you just keep smiling, the smile slowly becomes real. When you keep acting like the person you want to become, you will slowly become that person.

How to Change Your Life

The first step to becoming your best self is to write down the qualities of the person you want to become. This could be quitting smoking, getting up early every morning, going to sleep early at night and a certain style of clothing that your best self wears. Once a list has been drawn up, you can start writing a step-by-step plan.

This step-by-step plan could consist of not buying cigarettes anymore, setting the alarm early, ensuring that you get tired in the evening by not using blue screens after a certain time and slowly replacing your wardrobe with new clothes and donating your old clothes.

Recommendeded is taking it slow and spending at least two weeks per change. Immediately changing every aspect of your life is impossible to maintain for a longer period of time.

Start Doing Everything Consciously

A lot of people let life pass them by, they live on autopilot. From brushing their teeth, to eating their lunch and walking to their jobs. Everything is done without thinking about it and thus without actively experiencing it. Try your best to live every moment in your life, from the mundane to the exciting. Idealize the present.

Even the little walk to the supermarket should be done with full consciousness and you will notice how much of the little pleasures in life you have been missing out on in the past years. Try not to think about the future or the past, but think about what you are currently seeing and experiencing. See the birds singing, the plants growing between the paving stones under your feet and the trees stretching above you. Experience your life instead of merely letting it pass you by.
